Barnes Common is one of the largest areas of unenclosed common land (100 acres)  close to the centre of London, and is a designated Local Nature reserve.

For those interested in botany it has one of the largest areas of open acid grassland within Greater London which means that the attractive carpet of fine grasses which grow on minimal soil above gravels and sand  supports many interesting flowers and small plants.

For those less interested in nature it is still a wonderful place to visit offering everything from wild meadows, to a secret cricket pitch. There are also some wonderful Victorian houses marooned in the middle of the common and their priviledged owners really can live a country life in the centre of London.
