The Big Barnes Ponder is a major community exercise, in which everyone who lives in Barnes is invited to a day where their ideas and opinions can be registered and go towards forming a 10 year plan for Barnes. Having a community plan that the residents have taken an active part in forming is hugely important - as it will allow the council to make long term plans for Barnes, knowing that they are doing so with the real consent and involvement of its residents. It will also allow the Barnes Town Team to apply for other grants - not just council funding - to help develop Barnes.

The Barnes Ponder is being arranged by the Barnes Town Team - a group of local businesses and volunteers - who have already successfully applied for a £10,000 Portas Pilot grant which will be spent on measures that will help keep Barnes' shopping areas free from empty shops, and a vital 'hub' for the community.

The vision for Barnes will dictate the direction of the Town Team's business plan and will enable us to work with the Council and other organisations to get things done.

The event will be run by experienced facilitators led by Nick Taylor, who has delivered an award-winning regeneration programme in Scarborough. At the event you will hear lots of ideas about what could be done to improve Barnes for business, residents and visitors and you will have the opportunity to discuss issues and put forward your own ideas and suggestions.

The facilitators will help illustrate our ideas and share their experiences of what other towns have done to transform their environment and community to inspire us about what may possible in Barnes.

The Big Barnes Ponder will start at 10:30am and will run until mid-afternoon with a break for lunch which we will provide. You are welcome to come along at any time and stay as long as you wish. It promises to be a great event and we hope you will join us.
