Part of the Barnes Music Festival.
In celebration of Mothering Sunday in the middle of the Barnes Music Festival, join soloists, the choir of St Mary’s Barnes and the Langton Ensemble for this festal morning eucharist service which will be set to Mozart’s uplifting Coronation Mass. It will also include Edward Elgar’s exquisite miniature Ave Verum Corpus.
The Kronungsmesse is one of the most popular of Mozart’s short settings of the canon of the mass, written in 1779 in Salzburg where Mozart was court organist and resident composer at the cathedral. Elgar composed his music for Ave Verum Corpus in 1887 following the death of his father’s friend WA Allen who was Elgar’s first employer.
