Part of the Barnes Music Festival.
This concert brings together the newly-formed Barnes Music Festival Chorus with The Music Makers of London in a programme of Great British Choral Music including a specially commissioned composition from David Bednall.
David Bednall is one of the most exciting composers of the English tradition working today. The newly-commissioned work is a setting of texts with a link to Barnes, ranging from the vibrant and dynamic to the introspective and meditative. The final movement is a setting of the much-loved text 'The day thou gavest' written by John Ellerton, former Rector of Barnes. This new work will be performed for the first time at this concert by the Barnes Music Festival Chorus who will also sing works by Purcell, Stanford, Dodgson, Headley, Parry and Finzi’s 'My Spirit Sang All Day'.
The Music Makers of London are a small chamber choir with a particular emphasis on a cappella choral music. They will be singing a programme of works by Warlock, Elgar and Holst’s Four Part Songs.
